General Viewing Instructions

Click on the image, and then press your computer's "Page Down" key to travel to various view points within the map.

Point your mouse at the image and right-click to see a list of options, which includes various ways to navigate about the 3D map.  

For example, you can "fly" or "walk" across the terrain, as below:

Click in the 3D window and your cursor changes to a cross. Now you either hold down the left mouse button and drag in the desired direction or you may simply use the cursor keys. Check out the other methods of navigation (keyboard shortcuts, below). If you have a mouse wheel you may use this too. The mouse wheel provides 'look up/down' in walk or fly mode respectively 'move to/away' in all other modes.

If you select "fly" you can soar through the New River Gorge!.

Keyboard shortcuts

'PageUp'/'PageDown'
previous/next viewpoint

Ctrl
+Shift+ one of
{'W','F','S','E'}
Switches to 'Walk', 'Fly', 'Slide', 'Examine' navigation

Hold
down 'Shift'
to temporarily speed up navigation.

Hold
down 'Ctrl'
to modify the current navigation mode.

Navigation changes to 'Pan' while standing (Walk), 'Move (the examing center)' in examine mode, and to 'Slide' in all other modes.

'F3' 'jump to'.
Click on an object to automatically move to it.

'F7' toggles frame rate display

'F8' shows current camera position

'F9' shows blaxxun Contact (3D) settings dialog box.

'F11' saves current state of world to cache

'ESC' restores initial viewpoint.

Trouble Shooting

Contact 5.0 uses DirectX7 or OpenGL as render engines. If you saw the message 'DirectX 7 recommended' during installation, you should get DirectX 7 or the latest version (currently DirectX8) from Microsoft.
